We had 19 children from Room 1 and 2 representing South School at the district Athletics today.
From some of the results we have heard,, these children did amazingly well. Can't wait to hear all the results tomorrow! Mrs Sara and Mrs Rout managed to slip out of the classroom at different times and spend some time at the athletics, Here are just a few photos from some of the sprint heats and finals. Fast finishers got to create with 'story board' on the chrome books. Judging by the looks of concentration on the faces, it was a definite hit! After drafting their "Grate in the Grass" story, it was time to pair-share their work.
Today we were treated to a close up look at 3 different electric cars, which are part way through a tour from the bottom of the South Island to the top of the North Island.

The highlight had to be when the Tesla (the very sleek red car) danced! This week's challenge was to create a tower using marshmallows and dried pasta. Judging was based on the tallest and most stable structure. Unfortunately, a couple of towers keeled over during the judging! It was great to see everyone working really well in their groups, this week. Lots of discussion and plenty of perseverance resulted in some pretty amazing towers. Each group with their completed tower, ready for judging ... Believe it or not, there was a tie for first place, so the official judge (MIss Ward) had to remeasure using millimetres and there was only 2 mms in it!! Runner up, with a height of 613mm was ... And the winners, with a tower measuring 615mm, were ...
We are so lucky to have 2 sets of chrome books in our class. This morning everyone in Mrs Rout's writing group was able to have their own device to work on.
This week Katie and Georgia received awards in assembly. They are both working so hard in class. Congratulations girls!
