See you tomorrow morning at 8.30am by the Dental Clinic. Don't forget your shoes, Emily!
These four great poems were written after we had walked the Alborns Coal Mine Loop during our Camp in Reefton. The flimsy trees danced in the shadows Over the sound of birds tweeting The moisture dripped off the trees As we gingerly walked over The roots on the path. I stumbled upon a sign ‘DANGER’ The night came among us In a hole in the wall. The light of the torch Reflected on the water in the dark As the ghostly mine appeared to get darker Making a breeze blow through my spine. By Catey The dark gloomy hobbit hole stood Surrounded by tangled roots and Flimsy trees with dancing shadows. The forest ambushed all within. Only nature could be heard. Sudden silence surrounded me. With a chill down my spine I ventured forth Stepping in spongy damp moss Still not believing That back in the days People travelled here Searching for their fortune Along this ghostly track. By Kendra The snake like track slithered around the corners. The boards creaked and nails sprung out of nowhere. Rimu flowing down looked as if it was waiting for someone to swing on it. Trees were swaying in the breeze making spooky sounds as they moved The eerie feel filled up inside me as I stumbled on a rock The cave loomed before me as the coal rolled down the hill the golden water soaked my shoes. Why did I come here? By Shariah The shrub hung down
Like an open umbrella Dancing through it, What a lovely colour! Then around a corner, Where the black abyss stood , We were tripping, Over mossy, wood, Staring into what they call a mine, Dark and ghostly, At the same time, As we got closer, It was getting very eerie, Then I had felt myself shrink down, To the size of a fairy, I can not believe, This is where the miners stood, Working hard out, I never could.
