The big Kapa Haka competition is being held next Thursday, here in Westport. Our 2 teams have been working incredibly hard, giving up their morning tea and lunch times to perfect their items. We were lucky enough to be invited to watch their rehearsal this afternoon and were very impressed with their performances. It was great to see so many from Rm 1/2 involved in Kapa Haka. A top effort from everyone!

Welcome to Levi and Haylen. Levi came into our class at the end of last term and Haylen started this week.
We hope you enjoy being in Rm 1/2 and look forward to getting to know you better. Congratulations to Rosa and Charlie-Rose for being awarded Principal's certificates today. Well done, girls.
While the Kapa Haka group are preparing for their upcoming competition, we have the pleasure of entertaining children from Room 5 each Friday after assembly. The children buddy up with a 'little person' to play with them and teach them new games.
Lots of fun had by all! Congratulations to all the people from Rm1/2 who created and modelled their outfits. They were absolutely amazing!!
Catey and Shariah were lucky enough to get their photos in the Westport News. Catey is wearing a fabulous dress her mum created titled 'Queen of Hearts.' The dress and cape were made solely from packs of cards. Shariah created and modelled her own 'Bizarre Bra' titled 'Food Fiesta'. You look great , girls! Our focus for this term is the Library.
This is an ideal time to have a really good hunt around home for any overdue, lost or forgotten library books you might have. Next week the library focus is ... "return books on time." As an introduction to our unit on 'Sustainability', we asked the children to save all their rubbish from morning tea and lunchtime, plus any classroom rubbish. After lunch, some very brave souls sorted the huge container of rubbish and put it into 5 distinct piles.
The BIG question we have is "What can we do to reduce the amount of rubbish we are faced with at school?" Maybe you might have some ideas to help Term 3 has started and it was great to see everyone back and ready to learn. We welcome Haylon to our class - he's come all the way from Christchurch. We are missing Lily, but it was great to hear from her friends that the op went well and she hasn't ended up with plaster casts on both legs. Great news, Lily, and we hope to see you soon. Lots happening in the first 3 weeks including Kapa Haka and Westamaths, so watch this space!!! Great to see everyone settled and working hard, first day back.
Well, Rm 1/2, you've done it again!
HUGE congratulations to the Yr 7 girls and Yr 7 boys basketball teams. They both won their respective finals tonight. The boys beat North and the girls beat St Canices. I don't know the scores ( I was otherwise engaged, or should I say suffering), but I loved the row of faces that appeared at the window giving me a thumbs up. If you know the scores, perhaps you could make a comment and let me know. A fantastic effort guys, and a great way to finish off what has been an amazing last week of term. Enjoy your holidays!! |
