Room 1/2 was very proud to have 6 class members in the Buller U13 girls and boys basketball teams. Congratulations to Rowan, Blythe, Devlin, Luke, Kendra and Shariah for being selected into the representative team.
They competed this weekend, playing games against Nelson White, Nelson Blue, Marlborough and West Coast. Congratulations to Abby and Rueben for their 'Principal's Awards'.
They were awarded these for the superb job the both did in leading the Junior Kapa Haka. A fantastic effort from both of you. My apologies for not posting these pictures last week!
Congratulations to Maddy and Clayton for being awarded their 'Principal's Awards'. Well done both of you. I was lucky enough to sneak along to the NBS Theatre this afternoon ( thanks to Mrs S for holding the fort back at school) and got there just in time to see the Junior Team's performance. WOW!!! You were all amazing! The singing was beautiful and the haka was spot on!
The Intermediate team performed much earlier than expected, so I got to watch them as well. I thought you were great on Tuesday night, but you were even more polished today. Boys - your haka was so powerful, it sent shivers down my spine!! Congratulations to everyone. I felt very proud to be part of Westport South School. The school hall was a hive of activity this morning as everyone involved in Kapa Haka got ready for their competition.
Congratulations to the children from Rm 1/2 that competed in the West-a-Maths competition yesterday. We had a year 6 team, a year 7 team and Caitlin helped make up the year 8 team. A special thankyou to Tara who had to step in at the last minute ( 5 minutes before the cars were due to leave!) and make up the year 7 team.
The results were: Year 6 team - 4th Year 7 team - 2nd (check out the super cool medal they got in the pics) Year 8 team - 7th A fantastic effort from everyone! Each Wednesday afternoon this term, Mrs R has taken the Year 6's for dance.
What a talented bunch they are! They are becoming more and more confident at experimenting with all the different elements involved. There were some amazing performances today. Have a sneaky peak at the photos showing them working and creating with their partners. Tonight the Kapa Haka teams from Westport performed their final rehearsal in the NBS Theatre.
Six teams competed - 2 from St Canices, 2 from South, 1 from North and 1 from Buller High. This was the only chance friends and family would get to see all the Westport teams perform, and the Theatre was full. What a great nights entertainment! All the teams looked great and there was some beautiful singing. However, Mrs S and Mrs R thought our teams were AMAZING. We were so proud of you all. A HUGE thankyou must go to Miss Halsall and Mrs Robertson for all the time and effort they have put in. It really showed in your performances tonight. Well done to everyone!! This morning we had a "dummy run" to help prepare our teams for their competition in Hokitika tomorrow. Nearly all the children in room 1/2 and room 14 were put into teams of 4 to solve the mathematical problems.
It became organised chaos as a runner from each team raced to the stage to get their question from their marker and return it to their team. It was lots of fun, and we were so impressed with everyone for having a go and working as a team. To the teams competing tomorrow, GOOD LUCK! We know you will do us proud. |
