A very special and precious wee visitor came to see us at lunchtime. Layton's new little brother, Nixon, came for cuddles. He is only 8 days old and is just beautiful. Mrs Rout got to have lovely cuddles, once Miss Halsall had given him up, and yes, I'm sure he was smiling up at me!
These 3 young ladies have been accumulating all their certificates and were rewarded for their efforts in assembly this morning. Well done, girls.
At the end of Term 1, children were invited to submit posters that had a 'No Bullying' message. On Friday, the place getters and winners were presented with their prizes. Great to see people from our Room once again up their receiving awards.
Todays challenge was to build the longest and strongest bridge using only 12 full sheets of newspaper, 3 metres of string, 2 metres of sellotape and 2 A4 pieces of card. The crucial part was being able to balance a 500g weight on it, and not have the bridge collapse! Some pretty impressive structures were created , but unfortunately only 6 bridges were able to support the weight. The longest bridge, with a span of 78cm was created by Sienna, Mikah and Alantis. However, at the last minute they had made a support to keep the middle section of their bridge lifted. Not sure how well this would have worked in the deep ravine that was part of the scenerio! So ... after the judges had conferred, first place was awarded to an amazing structure, with a span of 65cm, that was created by Ross, Sam and Vera. This bridge was like a suspension bridge that actually had like a pulley system to weight it, at each end. And ... it could support the 500g weight without collapsing!
Although Whanau Day had to be postponed, we were still lucky enough to be treated to a performance from the school Kapa Haka Group.
All those that took part in the Holiday Reading Programme received their achievement awards in assembly. Of the 60 children that took part, 10 of them were from Room 1 and 2. A great effort from all of you..
Congratulations to Sienna and Lenka on receiving their well deserved awards in assembly this morning. Well done, girls.
