I borrowed this status as it is so accurate. Please read if you are unsure why teachers are striking. There are so many reasons media and non educators wouldn’t understand unless informed.

So teachers have voted for a full day strike - for the first time in 24 years - not a decision any have made lightly. For many teachers, losing even one days pay is huge and will make it difficult for their own families.
The media will make this all about the money but it is so much more than that. I hope we can get this message across clearly.
I teach. I truly give a damn about the kids in my class.
But waiting 12 months to get a child assessed when there is a problem is NOT acceptable. Having my class split amongst other classes because there are no relievers available is NOT acceptable. Knowing awesome teachers who are quitting and feeding, “I couldn’t recommend this career to anyone” is NOT acceptable. Not having sufficient support for the children in my class who need it is NOT acceptable. Having the SENCO (special needs coordinator ) in my school beating her head against a rock trying to help me get support for my class is NOT acceptable. Our kids must come first. Not having time for my own kids is NOT acceptable.
I am a teacher, a nurse, s social worker, advisor, advocate. I teach reading, writing, maths, kindness, respect, hygiene, and health, washing hands, and blowing noses. I help children who can’t toilet themselves. I teach self discipline. I teach kids how to speak clearly, share, show consideration, remember letter sounds, numbers, colours, and manners.
Please believe this strike is not just about money - it is about so much more - but mostly it’s about the kids in our classes getting the help they deserve!
